The Body Follows The Mind

I'm Josh. Most of you know me as Papi Silkies. Combat vet, former cop, and now a coach. This is how a soldier ended up in short shorts.

“We got the skies out. We got the thighs out.”

That is how every video starts. The story behind it starts a long way from a beach.

It started in Afghanistan

I served in the Canadian military and did a combat tour in Afghanistan. Heat. Weight on your back. Not much sleep.

You learn fast that your body only goes where your head lets it.

Then I put on a badge

After the army I worked as a municipal police officer. Long shifts. Hard calls.

The stress does not clock out when you do. I needed a way to carry it.

03 · The turn

Two tags. One rule.

Training started as stress management. It turned into the whole mindset. The workout was never only about muscle. It was about staying steady when life is loud.

A HARD MIND PRODUCES A HARD BODY.

04 · Why the silkies

If you show it, you'll grow it

It started with a simple problem. I have big legs. Most training shorts fight you on every squat.

So I went looking for the best shorts for moving with big legs. I found the ranger panties. Otherwise known as Silkies or Soffe Running Short. They worked, and became a lifestyle.

The legs are always out. So we never skip leg day.

Gym days, rocks, tires and sledgehammers

I lift in the gym like anyone else. But I also get outside and use what is around. The army and the job taught me to train in rough places with rough gear. You don't need a perfect gym. You need to show up.

Costa Rica, and wherever is next

I spend a lot of my year in Costa Rica. When I travel, I go looking for two things. The food, and the local fitness scene.

Then I find somewhere rough to train. Waterfalls. Rivers. Mountains. If there is a rock, I am lifting it.
